The text contrasts large with small and riches with poverty; the seemingly poor and weak child in the manger is recognised as a mighty King. There are various melodies used in conjunction with this text. The present version comes from the pen of J.S. Bach. The arrangement heard on this CD was originally composed for the vocal ensemble The Gents as a six-voice choral motet for two altos, two tenors, baritone and bass. The present adaptation for alto, high tenor, bass and two harmoniums was made at the request of the de Jong brothers. (arr.: Jelle Stellingwerf)
