Preludium Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir - 1724 - Trinity XXI
A composition in the ‘stile antico’.
The striding, phrygian melody Aus tiefer Not is heard in an arrangement in which each line is introduced in anticipatory imitation before finally flourishing in its entirety in the soprano. The rhythm, time signature (allabreve) and the genre (a motet) give this work a genteel and austere character.
